Sex Workers and Sex Workers' Support Groups Call on the Media to Abide by Professional Ethics (2011.08.04)
1) Shooting, videotaping and audio recording of sex workers without consent should be immediately stopped.
2) Before conducting interviews with sex workers, the media should explain to the sex workers the importance of the interview, fully discuss with them the form of the interview (such as filming) and remain open to discuss alternative methods.
3) Filming, video recording and audio recording for sex workers with consent should be based on the principle of protecting the privacy of the interviewee and ensuring that his/her identity will not be recognised by others (unless the sex worker interviewed is willing to disclose his/her identity) e.g. blurring or pixilating the image, showing only the back of the interview, voice changing etc.
4) The relevant photos, videos and audio recordings should be shown to the interviewed sex worker and only with his/her content can they be released.
