Sex Work and Retirement
(By Estella)
When will the career of a sex worker come to an end?
Retirement means different things to different people. For civil servants, the statutory retirement age is 60. For athletes, 30s is the best retirement age. As for sex workers, is there any retirement age?
Some sex workers see sex work as a short-term work, which is only transitional, while some see it as a lifelong career. Therefore, for sex workers, there is no such thing as the most suitable retirement age.
Even if sex workers reach the retirement age recommended by the government, most of them do not have MPF (Mandatory Provident Fund), and the government currently does not provide universal retirement protection. If sex workers (at retirement age) want to quit this industry, they can only rely on their own savings or find other jobs to maintain their livelihoods.
